One of the biggest decisions in your college career is what to major in. Some students arrive at the university with a firm idea in mind of what their major will be. Others come without a single clue. If you happen to be one of those types of students, consider some of the current “hot” jobs. If any of those sound interesting, investigate declaring that as your major.
Two careers that have been in the top ten “hot” job list over the last several years have been a physician’s assistance and a public health administer. If you enjoy learning about physiology, anatomy, diseases, or health issues, you might want to consider majoring in these areas.
If health and medicine isn’t your cup of tea, consider something that is totally different – a network administrator or a social media manager. All businesses use computers in today’s world. They need someone to set them up, maintain them, and fix them when there are problems. If you like computers, consider an IT major.
Today’s businesses and entrepreneurs are getting on the social media marketing band wagon. If you like marketing and like the idea of using Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube as marketing tools, you will enjoy majoring in business with a social media emphasis.
Another “hot” job is a project manager. A project manager needs good communication skills and a solid understanding of finance. If you throw technology into the mix, the job opportunities increase even more. If being a project manager interests you, consider going into finance, IT, or business making sure that you take classes that will help you learn how to manage projects.
A newly emerging market is applications for mobile technology. Do you love your cell phone? Do you have some apps on it that you absolutely couldn’t live without? If so, being a mobile applications developer could be a career for you. You would need to major in computer science with an emphasis of classes that teach programming for mobile devices.
